Bear killed on golf course

FREDERICK, Md. - The Maryland Department of Natural Resources killed a bear Saturday afternoon, fearing that it was dangerous.

The bear, which had tags on its ear from the Pennsylvania Game Commission, was seen walking in the woods between Grove Hill Road and the VFW golf course in the morning, Frederick Police reported.

Frederick Police and animal control officers called the Department of Natural Resources for help. Around 9 a.m., the bear wandered through the golf course, limping with an injured right hind paw.

Unable to get a tranquilizer gun, DNR officers killed the bear at about 1 p.m. because it was near a residential area along U.S. 40 and because of its "possible vicious nature," police said.
