Friday Roundup - Weimer hits 1,000 for 'Cats

* GIRLS BASKETBALL

CLEAR SPRING - Brooke Weimer scored career-point 1,000 just before halftime as No. 9 Williamsport cruised to a 70-27 victory over Clear Spring Friday night.

"I had no idea I was close to a 1,000,'' she said. "We had just scored, got the ball back and I shot from the left corner (about two feet inside the 3-point arc) with about a second left.''

She went in the locker room at halftime and, just before the third period started, was surprised when an announcement was made and her sister and parents presented her with flowers, balloons and a game ball.

"It was exciting and shocking at the same time,'' she said. "I knew I had some points but I think we all assumed I wouldn't do it until later in the season. I got off to an excellent start this year and my parents added my points up.''
