About First Christian Choir

The choir of First Christian Church will open the Judy Collins Christmas concert Saturday, Dec. 23, at The Maryland Theatre.

The more than 50 choir members are excited, said Eric Bowman, director of music at the church.

He described Collins' voice as having lot of clarity and character. "It fits everything she sings."

The choir will sing "Break Forth, O Beauteous Heavenly Light," a chorale from J.S. Bach's Christmas Oratorio; "Ave, Ave, the Angel Sang," Robert C. Lau's "gorgeous lullaby with an equally wonderful text related to Luke 1:26-38;" and "We've Got Good News to Tell," which Bowman described as "a rousing

a cappella spiritual."

The choir also will sing with Collins, accompanying her on "Amazing Grace" and traditional carols.
