Williamsport senior honored by AP



Williamsport senior Ryan McDonald was named to the Small School second team's defensive line by the Associated Press on Monday.

"I thought I had a pretty good year,'' McDonald said. "This is a great honor.''

The 6-foot-4, 250-pound senior had 92 tackles and four quarterback sacks despite facing double-team blocking. McDonald is getting looks from Division I schools, including Maryland, North Carolina, Illinois and Virginia Tech.

McDonald said a game to remember this season came against Brunswick.

"They'd beaten us these past two years and we wanted to get some revenge,'' McDonald said. "I was able to get some good pressure on the quarterback.''

Williamsport won the game, 28-15.

Twelve other players from the area earned honorable mention considerations, seven on the the Small School team and five on the Big School.

South Hagerstown celebrated its breakthrough season with two of the Small School players - quarterback Dominque Richmond and defensive back Nick Maas.

Hancock's Chris Dobrzanski was selected at running back. Middletown placed three players on the list in running back D.J. Costello, defensive lineman George Lane and kicker Jack O'Leary.

Walkersville offensive lineman Jason Abbott was also selected as an honorable mention.

The Big School contingent is led by North Hagerstown linebacker Frank McAllister.

Thomas Johnson's Robert Staley was selected as an all-purpose player.He played offense, defense while handling the punting and place kicking chores.

Frederick place three players - defensive lineman Akil Patterson, running back Jerrod Brown and defensive back Kent Bryant on the honorable mention list.
