Jeanette F. Cottrill

Jeanette Florence Cottrill, 83, formerly of 11 W. Baltimore St., Hagerstown, died Saturday, Dec. 16, 2000, at Colton Villa Nursing Home.

Born Sept. 20, 1917, in Halfway, she was the daughter of the late John Wesley A. and Emma Margaret Seibert Bowman.

She is survived by a brother, John Bowman of Martinsburg, W.Va.; a caregiver, Penny Sheppard of Hagerstown; nieces and nephews.

Burial will be held at the convenience of the family.

There will be no viewing.

Arrangements are by Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown.

William J. Lichtenwanger

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - William John Lichtenwanger, 85, of Berkeley Springs, died Saturday, Dec. 16, 2000, at his home, while under the care of Hospice of the Panhandle.


Born Feb. 28, 1915, in Asheville, N.C., he was the son of the late John Mathew and Lelia Williams Lichtenwanger.

He graduated from Knoxville High School, Knoxville, Tenn. He earned both a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in musicology from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Mich.

He retired in 1974 after 34 years of service as head of the Music Reference Section, Library of Congress, Washington, D.C.

He served as a Staff Sergeant with the Intelligence Branch of the U.S. Army Signal Corps at Arlington Hall from 1941 to 1945.

He was a member of American Musicology Society, the Music Library Association and Sonneck Society.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Elizabeth Creson Lichtenwanger; two daughters, Karen Askins of Ledyard, Conn., and Sarah Abdul-Wahid of Toppenish, Wash.; and four grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union St., Berkeley Springs. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Humane Society of Morgan County, 4100 Valley Road, Berkeley Springs, WV 25411.

Carol A. Somers

WINCHESTER, Va. - Carol Ann Somers, 58, of Winchester, and formerly of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., died Sunday, Dec. 17, 2000, at Winchester Medical Center, Winchester.

Born Dec. 6, 1942, in Fulton County, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Jacob Randolph and Loretta Valley Werdebaugh Eader.

She attended public schools in Fulton County, Pa., and Morgan County, W.Va.

She worked seasonally in fruit processing with Hepburn Orchards, Hancock, and Marker Miller Orchards, Winchester. She was also a homemaker.

She was a Protestant.

She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Shearl "Joe" Somers; four daughters, Delores A. McCumbee of Berkeley Springs, Annette L. Keefer of Hancock, and Cheryl L. Hines and Loretta C. Unger, both of Great Cacapon, W.Va.; two sons, Jacob L. Somers and Shearl Somers Jr., both of Winchester; five sisters, Iva Shives and Hester Mason, both of Berkeley Springs, Loretta Stevens of Biglerville, Pa., Ruth Doyle of Zephyr Hills, Fla., and Suzette Brackett of Winchester; three brothers, Ronald Eader and Jacob Eader, both of Berkeley Springs, and Richard Eader of Warfordsburg, Pa.; seven grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; two great-grandsons; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Randolph Eader.

Services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union St., Berkeley Springs. The Rev. Henry L. Fisher will officiate. Burial will be in Mahnes Chapel Cemetery, Morgan County, W.Va.

The family will receive friends today from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, which will be open at 2 p.m.

Betty L. Gamble

CONCORD, Pa. - Betty Lou Gamble, 69, of 24159 Back Road, died Saturday, Dec. 16, 2000, at Chambersburg Hospital.

Born June 2, 1931, in Dry Run, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Viola Hazelett Zeigler.

She was a 1949 graduate of the former Fannett Township High School.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member and past president of Franklin County Farm Women, Farm Women's Group 8 and Path Valley Lioness Club, Spring Run, Pa. She was also a member of Dorsett Grange 1888, Concord.

She is survived by her husband, Bruce B. Gamble, whom she married April 24, 1954; a daughter, Brenda L. Nye of Concord; three sons, Bradley T. Gamble of Dry Run, Brentley L. Gamble of McConnellsburg, Pa., and Bentley K. Gamble of Concord; and nine grandchildren.

Services will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at Concord United Methodist Church, Concord. The Rev. William R. Bair and Darwin Goshorn will officiate. Burial will be in Concord Union Cemetery, Concord.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 to 9 p.m. at John L. Agett Funeral Home, Dry Run, and Thursday one hour prior to the services at the church.

The family requests the omission of flowers and memorial contributions be made to Concord United Methodist Church, in care of Jane Stayer, P.O. Box 634, Concord, PA 17217.

CLEAR SPRING - Peter Paul Vincent King, 87, of 11116 Garrison Hollow Road, died at his home.
