About 75 local youths were treated to an early Christmas present Saturday thanks to Potomac Classical Youth Ballet and ballerina Lauren Anderson.

The youngsters got free tickets to see "The Nutcracker" at Hagerstown Community College's Kepler Theater on Saturday night, courtesy of Potomac Classical, said Beverly Kornides, board president.

Earlier Saturday, the youths were given an "informance" by the principal dancers, Anderson and Dominique Walsh from the Houston Ballet, Kornides said.

The children were from Girls Inc., the Boys' and Girls' Club of Washington County and the HotSpots dance group.

Anderson and Walsh talked to the children about dance and their own personal stories.

Anderson also talked to the kids about discipline and focus in pursuing their dreams, Kornides said.

"It was awesome. She's very dynamic, very full of energy. She connects with the kids," Kornides said.

The kids "loved" Anderson, Kornides said.
