Ruth C. Zimmerman

MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Ruth C. Zimmerman, 76, of 18275 Fort Davis Road, died Friday, Dec. 15, 2000, at her home.

Born July 12, 1924, in Millstone, Md., she was the daughter of the late Harvey and Esther Moats Seburn.

She worked at Mercersburg Dress Factory. Later, she assisted her husband in the operation of the family farm.

She was a member of the Methodist church in Little Cove, Pa.

She is survived by her husband, Charles E. "Doc" Zimmerman, whom she married in 1947; a daughter, Carol S. Michael of Hancock; and a granddaughter, Kimberly Dawn Michael of Hancock.

She was preceded in death by a brother.

Services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Mount Zion Lutheran Church in Little Cove. The Revs. Henry K. Johnson and Willis Swope will officiate. Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery.

There will be no viewing; however, the family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home, 47 N. Park Ave. in Mercersburg.

Ronald L. Freeman

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Ronald Lee Freeman, 61, of 233 Cleveland Ave., died Friday, Dec. 15, 2000, at Waynesboro Hospital.

Born Sept. 5, 1939, in Waynesboro, he was the son of the late Marshall Barr and Anna Fern Overcash Freeman.

He attended Quincy, Pa., schools.

He was employed as a press operator at The Stationery House in Hagerstown.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1958 to 1961.

He was a member of Otterbein United Brethren Church in Greencastle, Pa.

He was a member of Cumberland Valley Fireman's Association, Greencastle Rescue Hose Co. 1, Waynesboro Fish and Game Association and South Mountain Fish and Game Association of South Mountain, Pa.

He is survived by his wife, Esther Marie Binkley Freeman, whom he married Dec. 19, 1959; a daughter, Brenda K. Florence of Waynesboro; a son, Steven L. Freeman of Fayetteville, Pa.; two sisters, Joyce Good of Waynesboro and Iris Freeman of Smithsburg; three grandchildren; a niece; and four nephews.

Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Miller-Bowersox Funeral Home, 521 S. Washington St. in Greencastle. The Rev. David G. Rawley will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Greencastle.

The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.




Harvey Souders

BIG COVE TANNERY, Pa. - Harvey "Jess" Souders, 70, of 1390 Great Cove Road, died Thursday, Dec. 14, 2000, at Fulton County Medical Center.

Born Sept. 22, 1930, in McConnellsburg, Pa., he was the son of the late Frank and Hazel Seville Souders.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Velma Mellott Souders, in 1987.

He retired from Grove Manufacturing as a welder.

He was a member of McConnellsburg F.O.V.A.

He is survived by two daughters, Sherry Smith of Needmore, Pa., and Holly Hawbaker of McConnellsburg; two sons, Mike Souders of Big Cove Tannery and Wes Souders of McConnellsburg; four sisters, Judy Spear, Deb Souders and Yvonne McQuaid, all of McConnellsburg, and Lucinda Starr of Greencastle; five brothers, John Souders, Grant Souders and Jim Souders, all of McConnellsburg, Jack Souders of Greencastle, Pa., and Roger Souders of Big Cove Tannery; six grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Beverly Fagely.

Services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Cedar Grove Christian Church in Warfordsburg, Pa. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Christian Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, 322 N. Second St. in McConnellsburg, which will open at 2 p.m. for the convenience of friends. Visitation also will be Monday at noon at the church.




Richard A. Ritenour

MIDDLEWAY, W.Va. - Richard Allen Ritenour, 66, of Middleway, died Friday, Dec. 15, 2000, at City Hospital in Martinsburg, W.Va.

Born Aug. 26, 1934, in Winchester, Va., he was the son of the late Archie Clinton and Dorothy Tilden Marshall Ritenour.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. He received the Purple Heart.

He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Strasburg, Va.

He was a member of Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 948 of Charles Town, W.Va.

He is survived by friends James F. and Mamie Whittington of Middleway, James A. and Stephanie Whittington of Middleway and Mary Frances McDonald of Middleway.

He was the last of his immediate family.

Graveside services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Middleway Masonic Cemetery. The Rev. Russell Wright will officiate.

Visitation will be Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home in Charles Town.




Frances V. Carr

RANSON, W.Va. - Frances V. Carr, 59, of 101 S. Reymann St., died Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2000, at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore.

Born Feb. 10, 1941, in Charles Town, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Floyd Payton and Jane Roberts Payton.

She was a member of Sylvannah Baptist Church in Rippon, W.Va.

She was a member of Golden Age Club.
