Ruffin keeps up pace to lead Lions

By JACK HILL III / Staff Correspondent

Broadfording and Grace Academy did in their basketball games Tuesday exactly what the country has done with its presidential election. They split.

"We worked really hard for the victory," Ruffin said. "Our wing players got open and they hit the outside shots. That opened things up on the inside for me, because I was double-teamed. It wasn't easy. I was able to be in proper position underneath for both scoring and rebounding."

Michelle Moore had 15 points and seven assists, while Jessica Biddle scored 11 points for the Lions (5-3).

Stephanie Anthony posted 19 points and seven rebounds, while Lauren Durbin added 16 points and five rebounds for the Knights (0-2).

"We're trying to improve one game at a time," Broadfording coach Dana Gonzales said. "Michelle Moore hit some clutch open jumpers for us. That opened things up on the inside for Vanessa Ruffin."

"As long as we continue to pull together as a team, we can win the Mason Dixon Christian Conference," Ruffin said.

"This was our best offensive output this year," Grace coach J.D. Cardwell said. "We shot the ball well and we made things happen."

Nathan Sweeney had 14 points and 10 rebounds, Jeff Ward added 10 points and nine rebounds and Jake Marquis scored 11 points for the Knights (2-1).

Joe Paige scored 14 points and Carvey Wright added 10 points for Broadfording (5-3).

"This goes to show you that you have to come and play every night," Broadfording coach George Nunn said. "You can't come to the gym and expect to win. Games are won and lost on the floor. I hope that we got that message across."
