MiHi, St. John's members plan Christmas activites

Christmas Day at the Western Maryland Hospital Center will be a little cheerier for the second year in a row, thanks to the folks at MiHi and St. John's Episcopal Church.

MiHi, which stands for Many Individuals Helping Individuals, and St. John's members are planning activities for the Christmas Day party.

In preparation, volunteers are needed to bake cookies, pies or cakes and to help wrap gifts for patients.

The call is going out for additional volunteers who are willing to share their time and good cheer with the patients on Christmas.

"Last year we had about 12 people from the community come to help us on Christmas Day," said Gaye McGovern, one of the organizers.

Anyone wishing to help bring the 120 patients down to the party area are asked to be at the hospital on Pennsylvania Avenue by 2 p.m.

The party will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. and will feature goodies, carols, karaoke and distribution of wrapped gifts donated by the community.

For more information on volunteering before the party or on Christmas Day, call 301-791-7304. Tax-free contributions earmarked for "Christmas Party" may be sent to MiHi at Box 3511, Hagerstown, MD 21741.

Patients need items such as socks, sweatsuits, nightgowns, pens, stationery, toiletries, hair dryers, curling irons, blankets, slippers and postage stamps throughout the year.
