Williamsports tips Clear Spring in OT

WILLIAMSPORT - Winless Williamsport was willing to work overtime to register its first victory of the season.

Sophomore Delvon Brown, a reserve point guard, scored the final six points in overtime to help the Wildcats come back from a four-point deficit and nip the Clear Spring Blazers 51-49 in a Washington County game.

"A 'W' cures a lot of your ailments," Williamsport coach Deron Crawford said. "Not only did we get our maiden win tonight, but we overcame a lot to do it. We had a sluggish start. We lost our starting point guard, Jason Knicely, in the third quarter when he fouled out. We went with three sophomores for quite a bit of the time down the stretch."

During the final three minutes of the overtime period, Brown made a pair of steals and that enabled him to get a pair of baskets and sink two of his four foul shots to give Williamsport (1-2) a 51-49 lead over Clear Spring (0-3) with 12 seconds remaining.

The Blazers were unable to get a shot off in those 12 seconds.

"We were trying to get a timeout during the final 12 seconds of the overtime period, but the referees couldn't hear us because of the noise of the crowd," Clear Spring coach Daryl Hunsberger said. "Our boys played an excellent game as far as running the ball and getting good looks at the basket."

Brown collected 16 points, six rebounds and five steals for the Wildcats. Adam McAllister grabbed 16 rebounds and Chad Basore added 11 points and eight rebounds.

Jeremy Schnebly grabbed 17 rebounds, Josh Keyton scored 14 points, Justin Michael added 11 points and Will Worthington had seven rebounds for Clear Spring.
