Man guilty in robbery of 7-Eleven

Thomas Jefferson Gordon III pleaded guilty in Washington County Circuit Court Tuesday to an armed robbery of the Dual Highway 7-Eleven in July.

Gordon, 19, of Annapolis, was jailed without bond by Judge John H. McDowell pending completion of a pre-sentence investigation.

At 3:39 a.m. July 24, a store clerk was outside having a cigarette when he noticed a man using the pay telephone, court records said.

The man hung up and walked into the convenience store, picked up a pack of gum and walked to the register, where the clerk was behind the counter, court records said.

Once the cash register was open, the man produced a handgun and demanded money, court records said. He fled on foot with about $50.

Hagerstown City Police attempted to retrieve fingerprints from the counter but were unsuccessful. Then the clerk remembered the telephone call from the pay phone, court records said.

The fingerprints were sent away for analysis and they came back, matching Gordon's, court records said.
