Edna P. Burkhart

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Edna Peair Burkhart, 79, of Martinsburg, died Saturday, Dec. 9, 2000, at Canterbury Nursing Home in Shepherdstown, W.Va.

Born April 29, 1921, in Martinsburg, she was the daughter of the late Taylor and Mary Raines Richard.

She was a member of Chapter 738 Women of the Moose.

She is survived by a daughter, Barbara P. Phillips of Chester, Md.; a son, Wallace L. Peair of Enola, Pa.; a sister, Isabel R. Stuckey of Martinsburg; two brothers, the Rev. James L. Richard of Martinsburg and Taylor E. Richard of Dillsburg, Pa.; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a son, Max J. Peair; a sister, Estella Hockinsmith; and two brothers, Calvin Richard and Ernest Richard.

Services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St. in Martinsburg. The Rev. Keith W. Keidel will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery.

Visitation will be Monday evening at the funeral home.

Viola B. Effland

BOONSBORO - Viola Belle Effland, 86, of Fahrney-Keedy Home, died Friday, Dec. 8, 2000, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Aug. 27, 1914, in Paw Paw, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late George and Emma McCoole Effland.

She was a member of Petworth Methodist Church in Washington, D.C.

She is survived by a cousin, Elsie Holloway of Greencastle, Pa.

She was preceded in death by an infant sister and an infant brother.

Services will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd. in Hagerstown. The Rev. Louis L. Emerick will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Suitland, Md.

The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday at 9 a.m. at the funeral home.




Clara L. Free

WILLIAMSPORT - Clara L. Free, 63, of 15920 Falling Waters Road, died Friday, Dec. 8, 2000, at Washington County Hospital.

Born in Peru, Md., she was the daughter of the late Earl and Ethel Divel Miller.

She was a homemaker.

She was a 1955 graduate of Hagerstown High School.

She is survived by her husband, Edward Free; three daughters, Sharon Nyhart of Clear Spring, Malissa Vanderlyn of Greencastle and Kelly Benedict of Williamsport; a son, Glen Charles Free of Greencastle, Pa.; six sisters, Becky Hovermill, Edna McGowen, Wanda Reiner and Nellie Cable, all of Hagerstown, Mary Henson of Virginia Beach, Va., and Helen Leberknight of Chambersburg, Pa.; two brothers, Charles Miller and Thomas Miller, both of Hagerstown; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Frances Miller, and four brothers, John Miller, Glen Miller, Earnie Miller and Elmer Miller.

Services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Rest Haven Funeral Home, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave. in Hagerstown. The Rev. Tim Lester will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery in Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.




Ida M. Lehman

Ida Mae Lehman, 90, of Virginia Avenue, Hagerstown, died Friday, Dec. 8, 2000, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Jan. 9, 1910, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late John and Vernie Kendle Beckley.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold F. Lehman, in 1994.

She was employed by the State Highway Commission as a secretary.

She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church.

She was a member of Business Professional Women Association, Chewsville Lions Club, Halfway Homemakers Club and DAR Hagerstown Chapter.

She is survived by a stepdaughter, Phylis Warren of Hagerstown; five step-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandsons; and seven cousins.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Johnny Beckley.

Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church, 141 S. Potomac St. in Hagerstown. The Rev. Edward H. Heim will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery in Waynesboro, Pa.

The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd. in Hagerstown.

Brook A. Kilmer

KEARNEYSVILLE, W.Va. - Brook Allison Kilmer, 39, of Kearneysville, died Friday, Dec. 8, 2000, at City Hospital in Martinsburg, W.Va.

Born March 28, 1961, in Laurel, Md., he was the son of William Henry Kilmer of Romney, W.Va., and Pat Ann Avinger Kilmer of Parkton, N.C.

He was a flooring journeyman.

He served in the U.S. Air Force.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by a daughter, Christine Zimmerli of Orange, Texas; three brothers, Robert Paul Kilmer of Bradenton, Fla., Kelly Awbrey Kilmer of Silver Spring, Md., and Keith Randolph Kilmer of Geneva, Fla.; and two grandchildren.

Burial will be private.

Arrangements are by Jefferson Chapel Funeral Home, Ranson.




Carola K. Small

ST. THOMAS, Pa. - Carola Kay Small, 48, of 1286 Shields Road, died Friday, Dec. 8, 2000, at Chambersburg Hospital in Chambersburg, Pa.
