Mail Call for 12/7

"I would like to propose two things. One is, every week at least or maybe twice, one column from a city councilman and one column from a county commissioner. Explaining issues that are presently before the board or are anticipated problems. The second column would be from one of the bureaucrats of the county or city government, explaining their department and going in depth on a particular issue within their department."

"Why doesn't Washington County offer any community service courses the way that Pennsylvania, West Virginia or Virginia are doing? I would like to see some community service things from our hospital."

"In response to the lady who called in about her prescription going up $28 in three months. If you keep track of the pharmaceutical companies when they merge with another company, which is actually supposed to help consumers with lower prices, but the prices actually go up. Also, this must be happening with the flu shot vaccine. If a company has merged with a pharmaceutical company, such as Martin's Food Store and the vaccine company, you can get the flu shot at Martin's but not at your doctor."

"I read about people with their kids not buckled up. I drive a tractor-trailer a few days a week. What I see is awful. Kids carrying on in the back seat, no restraints on at all. Even in the front seat. I guess people just don't care about their kids."

"Suddenly, the buzz is about recession. Wall Street has become gloomy. The economy is slowing down. Consumer confidence has fallen. Energy prices are rocketing. Clinton, who has taken credit for our recent prosperity, is still president. Why is that happening?"

"I wanted to thank Peggy and Bob for the wonderful Thanksgiving dinner that they put on for the residents of Elizabeth Court Apartments. It was very delicious and very nice of you."

"I wanted to say that last weekend I went out to Ralph and Maria's Restaurant on Pennsylvania Avenue and I heard the best band I have ever heard in the area. It was called Grand Street Station. They were not only a bunch of professionals in sound and looks but they played music that was out of this world. I hope they are back in the area soon. I did buy one of their CDs and I wish them all the best. Thank you from a real big fan."

"Wanted, a young person who lives in the area of Jefferson Street and Cannon. In that area, to shovel snow off my sidewalk. We will pay good money. Call 301-791-7417."

"I want some information, a young lady wants to know where she can find white slacks? She is 18, she needs them to work in a kitchen of a restaurant. We have checked at Wal-Mart, Kmart, Ames. Call me at 301-791-7417."

"I am calling to thank my neighbors Andy and Allison Thomas for helping my husband when he fell at the end of our driveway on Monday night. It is really nice to have neighbors like you. You are really kind folks."

"Al Gore never carried his own state nor his idol's state of Arkansas and this should tell him something."

"Al Gore the bore could have been president already, had he come out and said that Bill Clinton should have been convicted back when they had the impeachment trials. Also if he had come clean on the Communist China and the campaign contributions. I don't think that the American people want this election decided by a bunch of people that don't have intelligence enough to read the voting instructions and be able to punch a few holes in the ballot."

"I just wanted to inform all the readers that are calling and complaining about the votes that are not counted. I want to explain to them how this works. The only votes that are not counted are the absentee military ballots that were intentionally thrown out. The 14,000 votes that Al Gore is talking about are 14,000 ballots that have no punch marks for president. That means that they didn't vote for Al Gore or George Bush, etc., etc. So we can't count 14,000 nothings. Get over it, you lost. George Bush is the next President of the United States. The Florida Supreme Court, I am sure that they are going to try to get him in, but then we always have the United States Supreme Court to see that the rule of law is upheld."

-Hagerstown

"This election thing is getting out of hand, people. Gore needs to give it up. There are a lot of Gore supporters out there, but I am not one of them, I am not even a Bush supporter. I didn't vote for either one of those two. But it seems that Gore is trying to steal this election by letting the courts decide a president, instead of the votes. Every vote should count, but here are the facts. The ones that did not get counted are the ones that were not filled out correctly. A small dimple on a chad is not a vote. It shows that they considered it, but didn't intend it."

"I wanted to thank those who decorated the Williamsport Park. They did an outstanding job."

"I hope that Gore becomes the president because Bush will ruin everything. We don't need a Republican to be president."
