Jacob E. Hershman

RICHMOND, Va. - Jacob E. Hershman, 87, formerly of Elizabethtown, Pa., and Hagerstown, died Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2000, at the home of his son, the Rev. John G. Hershman.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Alberta Garns Hershman.

He retired in 1979 from the U.S. Office of Education as chief of the Institutional Eligibility Unit for Colleges and Universities. He had taught at Williamsport High School, was curriculum coordinator at South Hagerstown High School, principal of Hancock High School and academic dean at Elizabethtown College in Pennsylvania.

He is survived by two daughters, Joan E. Rhoden and Lucianne H. Pool; one son, John G. Hershman; two sisters, Frances Diehl of Elizabethtown and Esther Weddle of Goshen, Ind.; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.


A memorial service will be held Sunday, Dec. 17, at 4 p.m., at West End Assembly of God in Richmond.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to West End Assembly of God Education Scholarship Fund, 501 Parham Road, Richmond, VA 23229.

Randolph H. Rodrick Jr.

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Randolph "Ranny" Highley Rodrick Jr., 78, of Charles Town, died Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2000, at Evergreen Health and Rehabilitation Center in Winchester, Va.

Born Feb. 20, 1922, in Charles Town, he was the son of the late Randolph Highley Rodrick, Sr. and Ella Octavia McGorlick Rodrick.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Isabelle M. Vernon Rodrick, in 1988.

He attended Charles Town High School.

He retired from WV. ABC Store in Shepherdstown, W.Va. He had been employed by Turf and Townhouse Motels; and for 18 years at Jefferson Hardware Store, both in Charles Town.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He received the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal.

He was a former member of Charles Town Baptist Church.

He was a member of VFW Memorial Post 3522 of Charles Town.

He is survived by a son, R. Vernon Rodrick of Charles Town; three grandchildren, Lisa Lynn Baumgardner, Randolph Scott Rodrick and Cassie Renae Rodrick; and a great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Randa Mae Wasson.

Graveside services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Edge Hill Cemetery in Charles Town. Dr. Wyman Hall will officiate.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home in Charles Town.

Virginia L. Hayes

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Virginia L. "Ginny" Hayes, 70, of Martinsburg, died Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2000, at City Hospital.

Born April 30, 1930, she was the daughter of the late William Jacob and Madoline Ritenour Barrett.

She was a cook for Star Confectionery; and the Elks Lodge.

She is survived by a daughter, Judy Ann Hayes of Martinsburg; three sons, Anthony Wayne Hayes, Howard William Hayes and Robert Joseph Hayes, all of Martinsburg; two sisters, Delsie LaPlante of Springfield, Mass. and Mildred Brown of Martinsburg; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, Carrie Barrett, Maxine Schipper and Stella McCarthy.

Services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St. in Martinsburg. The Rev. Gerald Fuss will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Bonnie S. Kriner

FAYETTEVILLE, Pa. - Bonnie S. Kriner, 47, of 260 Cameo Drive, died Thursday, Dec. 7, 2000, at Chambersburg (Pa.) Hospital.

Born Jan. 25, 1953, in Chambersburg, she was the daughter of the late Clyde and Almeda Wright Robison.

She attended Chambersburg schools.

She attended Pond Bank (Pa.) Independent Church.

She was a member of Fayetteville Volunteer Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary.

She is survived by her husband, Richard R. Kriner, whom she married Dec. 24, 1979; a stepdaughter, Kimberly K. Caldwell of Shippensburg, Pa.; two stepsons, Michael R. Kriner of Waynesboro, Pa. and Bradley B. Kriner of Chambersburg; two brothers, Robert Robison of Fayetteville and Allen Robison of Chambersburg; and three grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Joanne Gearhart.

Services will be Monday at 10 a.m. at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road in Chambersburg. The Rev. Paul B. Baker will officiate. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens in Chambersburg.

Visitation will be Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday at 9 a.m. at the funeral home.

Denese N. D'Aquino

Denese Noel D'Aquino, 31, of 1100 Woodland Way, Hagerstown, died Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2000, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Dec. 27, 1968, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of Della J. D'Aquino of Hagerstown and the late John D'Aquino.

She was a 1990 graduate of the Washington County Job Development Center.
