Railroad contest being held in Martinsburg

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - For the third Christmas season in a row, model railroads will be on display in downtown business windows for shoppers to check out and judge.

The Model Railroad Showcase Competition will feature 25 exhibits, the highest number in its three-year history. Shoppers can pick up ballots at 12 downtown locations, view each of the exhibits, then vote on which they believe is the best.

The exhibitors are competing for more than $1,500 in prizes, including $500 in cash from City National Bank and two tickets on Amtrak to Chicago.

"The event has gotten bigger every year," said Lisa Dall'Olio, who is coordinating it for Main Street Martinsburg.

While the exhibits will remain in the windows for much of the Christmas season, they will be running Dec. 9 and Dec. 16 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
