City OK's pool repairs

Hagerstown City Council members gave the go-ahead to purchase several items for the city's Claude M. Potterfield Pool Tuesday, including new lounge chairs, a pool basketball set and water volleyball equipment.

The improvements and additions, which will cost about $30,000, also include replacing shower heads in the women's bath house and painting the shallow end of the main pool.

Douglas Stull, head of the City Recreation Department, said there also are plans to replace some of the concrete areas with grass.

Some of the purchases will to back to the council for formal approval.

The Frederick Street pool typically opens Memorial Day weekend.
