City Hall lobby's renovation complete

The approximately $200,000 renovation of the lobby in Hagerstown City Hall is almost complete, and now plans are being made to redo the adjacent hallway.

City Engineer Bruce Johnston told the Mayor and City Council Tuesday that the lobby renovations have "turned out beautifully. It makes the hallway look dark and shabby by comparison."

Johnston said renovating the hall would cost about $28,000.

The council agreed to have Johnston move forward with hall-renovation plans.

Councilmen William M. Breichner and Alfred W. Boyer praised the renovations to the lobby.

In March, the council authorized spending up to $200,906 on the lobby renovation. According to a city memo, the renovation is expected to cost less than $196,000.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony is expected for when the lobby renovations are completed.
