Editor's note - Please be as brief as possible when calling Mail Call, The Daily Mail's reader call-in line.

Mail Call is not staffed on weekends or holidays so it is best to call Mail Call during the week. The Mail Call number is 301-791-6236.

You are welcome to leave a recorded message on any subject, but some calls will be screened out.

Here are some of the calls we have received lately:

"I bet my last dollar that it is the ones that think Al Gore should concede would think that every vote should be counted if they were in his place."

-Hagerstown

"I wanted to comment on the 11-year-old that you had on the front page. I have been to Funkstown and I think that she should be more afraid of the three taverns and the exotic dance club rather than the Wal-Mart. I believe that they bring more of potential for violence than what Wal-Mart would."

"I hope that the County Commissioners are smart enough not to let the 10 people who live in Funkstown stand in the way of progress for thousands of the residents in the Eastern Washington County. Build the Wal-Mart, build it now!"

"I want to say hello to Betty. We worked in Hagerstown together. I wanted to let her know that I still love old George Jones. Have a nice day, Betty, this is your friend Helen."

"Tuesday before Thanksgiving, I had the misfortune of falling on my face on a sidewalk on Wesel Boulevard. I want to thank everyone that came to my aid and was very concerned about me. The wife and her husband, the EMTs and everyone else who I cannot name. You deserve my sincere thanks and God's blessings. To the young man who followed me home to make sure I got there OK, I gave him my sincere thanks and blessings on Thanksgiving Day. There are good people everywhere in this world. God bless all of them. My name is Katherine, of Williamsport; my phone number is 301-223-4252."

"Why don't we just have Gore president and make Bush the vice president and get it over with. I am tired of hearing about them. I think everyone else is, too."

"Could someone please fill in the hole where you turn right from Burhans Boulevard onto Franklin Street. In the right-hand lane, there is a rectangle hole that has not been filled in. A few weeks ago, they were working there and they never filled the hole in. It is a very rough turn."

"I want to thank Jimmy, Judy, Stan and Wayne for the fine job they do at Milestone in Williamsport. I want to thank all the people who live in building 10 for all the courtesy and respect that they have for all the neighbors. Thank you, neighbors and all the employees for the fine work you do. Merry Christmas to all from your neighbors Dave and Darlene."

-Williamsport

"To the person who called in that was a Korean War veteran and thinks maybe in order for someone to vote, their IQ should be bigger than their shoe size. I don't think in his 70 years he has learned anything. He hasn't realized that all of the votes have not been counted, not even once. George Bush cannot take all of the election, even if he sends all of the brown shirts that he can muster through the Republican Party and send them to Florida. He still can't take it, unless the extra votes are counted."

"I get tired of all you crybaby Republicans. You know if the tables were turned and Bush had to get all of his votes recounted, you wouldn't be crying would you?"

"I am calling about the 22-year- old girl that was killed in Noland Village. First of all, it was such a tragic thing to happen to anyone and my heart goes out to the family. Also in regards to the person in Mail Call that wanted to know if there was going to be a trust fund set up for the small children. Besides dealing with the tragic loss and dealing with her not having any insurance, there is a trust fund set up. It is at Hagerstown Trust, West Washington Street, in care of Twayna Stubbs and sons. I wanted to make everyone aware of that."

"Norma turned 50 on Saturday, Dec. 2."

"I say bravo Al Gore, I admire this man's courage and determination and not giving up just because of some foul-ups in the Florida election. I am proud that he is sticking by his guns and not giving up the ship yet, as far as the Florida recount is concerned. I admire someone who is willing to stick with it until the very end. I wish there were more people in this world like Al Gore. Hang in there, this thing isn't over yet."

"My name is Mark and I am a 1992 graduate of the Washington County Job Development Center and I wanted to say to my old teachers and Gary Hollingsworth, my old principal, I hope that everything is going well out there. When I left there, I tell you I was heartbroken, I didn't want to leave. I miss you guys."

"I lost my Shepherd College class ring for the year 1965. WEM is engraved on the inside of the ring. If found, call 301-790-1332."

"I was wondering if anyone knew where the best reasonable place you can go to get your VCR cleaned?"

"Did anyone take Mrs. Hoffman's place as Mrs. Santa Claus? If so, please leave her name and number."

"Isn't it strange that out of 50 states, Florida, where Jeb Bush is governor is having trouble. Remember his scandal?"

"I found a dog in the North End. Call 301-733-9265 if it belongs to you."
