County to get food, shelter funds

Washington County will receive $48,286 in federal money for emergency food and shelter programs, the United Way of Washington County said Tuesday.

The Washington County Local Emergency Food and Shelter Board, which includes representatives from local government and charities and a homeless or formerly homeless person, will decide how the money is distributed.

Nonprofit organizations that provide food or shelter may apply for a share. The deadline is Jan. 11, 2001.

The Washington County Community Action Council, the Salvation Army, Food Resources, Citizens Assisting and Sheltering the Abused Inc., known as CASA, the YMCA and St. John's Shelter for the Homeless previously received money.
