Hagerstown hires former School Board spokeswoman

The former spokeswoman for the Washington County Board of Education, Donna Messina, was introduced Tuesday as the City of Hagerstown's new benefits coordinator in the Human Resources Department.

Messina spent about 23 years working for the Board of Education before resigning this month.

Her last day at the Board of Education was Nov. 17.

Messina left the School Board as the community relations specialist, and in that position Messina often acted as spokeswoman for the School Board.

Prior to working in community relations, Messina spent nine years working for the Human Resources Department at the School Board.

Messina's formal title with the city is human resources specialist. She started working for the city Monday, with an annual salary of about $38,000, according to spokesperson Karen Giffin.
