Man charged with fleeing officers



CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - A man wanted on several charges in Hagerstown was picked up in Franklin County, Pa., last week after he tried to elude Chambersburg Police at a traffic stop, Chambersburg Police alleged.

Michael W. Vance, 34, 18042 Edith Ave., Maugansville, was arraigned before District Justice Gary Carter and placed in Franklin County Prison on $250,000 bail Nov. 21, police said. He has since posted bail.

Police picked up a man after he refused to stop his vehicle at a traffic stop and fled Nov. 21. He later abandoned the car and fled on foot from the rear parking lot of the Professional Arts building on Lincoln Way East, police said.

Police eventually apprehended a man in the area of Second Street at Liberty Street after he was found in the back yard of a private residence, police alleged.

Vance was charged with robbery, being a fugitive from justice, fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, recklessly endangering another person, resisting arrest, escape, aggravated assault and loitering and prowling.

Two Chambersburg Police officers were treated and released from Chambersburg Hospital for injuries sustained during the incident.

During the course of the pursuit, several residents helped direct officers to the man, police said.

"CPD would like to acknowledge the citizens of Chambersburg who actively participate in helping to keep this community safe," according to a Chambersburg Police statement.

Pa. police probe two arson attempts



CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Chambersburg Police were looking for information in two arson attempts in the borough on Thanksgiving.

At 7:47 p.m. Thursday, Chambersburg Police and Fire departments responded to a building fire at 184 E. Washington St., the former J.C. Penney store. Officers found a bundle of newspapers burning against a mental door on the north side of the building.

The door was damaged, and police believe the fire was deliberately set.

A bundle of newspapers was also set on fire in the area of Bigler's Barber Shop on South Fourth Street at 7:34 p.m. Thursday, police said.

Chambersburg man attacked in home



CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - A Chambersburg man was attacked in his home by a stranger wielding a beer bottle Saturday, Chambersburg Police report.

Sergio Lopez told police he answered a knock on his door at 106 E. Washington St., Apt. 5, at 7:35 p.m. Saturday and a man struck him with a beer bottle and fled.

His attacker was described as a Hispanic male, 5-foot to 5-foot 2-inches tall, with black hair and a mustache, wearing a red shirt and black pants.

Money taken from Pa. gas station



FORT LOUDON, Pa. - More than $3,000 was taken from a Peters Township, Pa., gas station Saturday evening, Pennsylvania State Police said.

Someone entered Pensinger's Texaco, 123 Path Valley Road, through a rear door between 8 and 8:45 p.m. and removed $3,259 in cash from the register, Pennsylvania State Police said in a report.

The store owner is offering a reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the thief.
