Plant plans to add shift, 52 jobs

The Rust-Oleum Corp. plant in Williamsport is starting a weekend shift, creating 52 new jobs, the plant's human resources director said last week.

There currently are about 130 employees, said Larry West, the company's human resources director.

The Vernon Hills, Ill., company manufactures paints, coatings and rust preservation of paint, he said. They also make aerosal sprays.

They'd like new employees to start as soon as possible but the goal is mid-March, he said.

Most of the jobs pay between $11 and $19 an hour, according to advertisements. The plant is in the Interstate Industrial Park at 16414 Industrial Lane of Williamsport.

Adding a weekend shift enables the company to start operating the plant seven days a week instead of five days a week.

The change will reduce the number of overtime hours, West said.

The company has been noticing many of the present employees are working a lot of overtime and this change will help correct that problem, he said.

It will also increase the plant's capacity, he said, but he did not have estimates on the increase.
