Here are some of the calls we have received lately:

"If anyone who reads Mail Call interested in cutting down a large Maple tree for the firewood. We are going to have a bad winter. It sheds so many leaves and I have already raked up 25 bags. I am elderly and cannot do that kind of work anymore. If interested, call 301-432-8837."

"To all the children that went to see 'The Grinch' at the 3:30 p.m. show on Sunday, you were all very well behaved."

"I read Dan Spears' article on the State Finals Soccer game and I agree with him 100 percent. I refereed high school and college soccer for 40 years, so I do know a little about the game."

"In response to the person asking about a holiday house tour in the North End. The North High junior class is having a holiday house tour on Sunday, Dec. 3, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Beautiful North End homes. This will benefit their prom. The information is available at North High at 301-766-8238 or from 301-797-7210."

"To the lady who left her stroller and a coat in a mall shopping cart. People wonder why their kids get sick. As cold as it has been, there was no reason why this kid didn't have his coat on and zipped up. I see too many kids around without jackets on and the parents wonder why they have to make trips to the doctors."

"Is the public aware of what is going on with the banks? Did you know that we are not allowed to have Christmas Club accounts anymore because the state of Maryland charges three percent for every Christmas Club? I think Maryland better get on the ball. This state is ridiculous."

"Does anyone know about seniors getting raises this coming year?"

"As the holiday season approaches, many adults will be asking Santa for President Bush. They will know if they have been bad if President Gore shows up instead."

"Congratulations to my daughter Tanya for getting her first deer on junior hunt day. I am very proud of you. Love your dad, Tom."

"I will never support the commander in chief, Al Gore. My flag will fly at half mast. I will be in mourning for my country if Al Gore steals this election."

"I think it is terrible that a recount is being allowed in only a heavily Democratic counties in Florida. All the counties should be recounted to be fair. If you take a primarily Democratic state Supreme Court in a heavily democratic counties, who do you think is going to win? What a tragedy."

"I want to say congratulations to all who won in the Sharpsburg Election."

"I am a single mother of a 9-year-old boy and my heart goes out to the mother in Frederick, Md. I blame the system. I let my child go out and play all the time and now I will even worry more."

"I wish to applaud the senior class of Smithsburg High School for their performance and direction of the Class Play, 'Rock-n-Roll is here to stay.' They were all wonderful. It was a delightful experience."

"I want to thank the person who returned my purse into the security office last week that I had left at the food mart. It was greatly appreciated. Thanks again."
