Mylar balloons cause power outage
Three Mylar balloons were blamed for knocking out power in parts of downtown Hagerstown for about an hour Wednesday.
City Hall and Hagerstown City Police headquarters were among the places without power from about 3:45 p.m. to about 4:45 p.m.
According to Karl Kohler, administrative officer at City Light Department, said three Mylar balloons got into the overhead electric wires at the corner of North Prospect and Church streets.
The balloons, which have aluminum in them, caused a short circuit, knocking out power in an area bounded by Franklin Street, Potomac Street, Devonshire Road and Mitchell Avenue.
