Carl C. Wink

HANCOCK - Carl C. "Abe" Wink, 84, of Limestone Road, who died Friday, Nov. 17, 2000, at his home, is survived by a stepson, William L. Shifflet Sr. of Hancock.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 141 W. Main St., Hancock. The funeral home will be open from 2 to 9 p.m. for the convenience of family and friends.

Memorial contributions may also be made to St. Thomas' Episcopal Church, 2 E. High St., Hancock, MD 21750.




Clara A. Shoemaker

Clara Z. Shoemaker, 78, of Hagerstown, who died Friday, Nov. 17, 2000, at her home under the care of Hospice of Washington County, was also survived by a granddaughter, Tressy Lyn Simmons, with whom she lived with more than two years, and who was also her care giver.

Thelma V. Lowry

FRONT ROYAL, Va. - Thelma Virginia Lowry, 72, of Front Royal, died Saturday, Nov. 18, 2000, at Susan B. Miller Nursing Home, Woodstock, Va.

Born Sept. 11, 1918, in Hancock, Md., she was the daughter of the late Vernon P. and Roberta Hill Mann.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Paul Lederick Lesher, and her second husband, Roy W. Lowry.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of First Baptist Church of Front Royal.

She is survived by two daughters, Elaine L. Neff of Strasburg, Va., and Karen L. Feinstein of Arlington, Va.; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's Cemetery in Clear Spring. The Rev. R. Mark Jordon will officiate.

Arrangements are by Turner-Robertshaw Funeral Home, Front Royal.




Bessie V. Willard

Bessie V. Willard, 75, of Reedy Parkway, Hagerstown, died Friday, Nov. 17, 2000, at Dennett Road Manor Nursing Home, Oakland, Md.

Born May 30, 1925, in Rowlesburg, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late George and Myrtle L. Dillsworth Thomas.

She is survived by her husband, James R. Willard Sr.; a son, James R. Willard Jr. of Hagerstown; three sisters, Genevieve Ludwig, Rose DeWitt and Della Mae Stemple, all of Oakland; a half-sister, Josephine Lloyd of Swanton, Md.; three half-brothers, Robert Burns and Henry Burns, both of Oakland, and William Lee of Baltimore.

She was preceded in death by her son, Eugene Thomas.

Services will be held today at 10 a.m. at Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland. The Rev. Donald Matthews will officiate. Burial will be in Garrett County Memorial Gardens, Oakland.




Daniel A. MacKerchar Jr.

HUSTONTOWN, Pa. - Daniel A. MacKerchar Jr., 62, of Hustontown, died Saturday, Nov. 18, 2000, at his home.

Born Oct. 11, 1938, in Briton, N.Y., he was the son of Trudy Gill Tyo of Houstontown.

He was a self-employed contractor.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps.

He was of the Presbyterian faith.

He was a member of McConnellsburg American Legion Post 561, and International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 126.

He is survived by a son, Daniel A. MacKerchar III of Langhorne, Pa.; and a brother, Richard MacKerchar of Borrego Springs, Calif.

He was preceded in death by a sister.

Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.

Visitation will be held Friday from 5 to 6 p.m. at Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home Inc., 322 N. Second St., McConnellsburg. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Home Nursing Agency Hospice, 227 Hospital Drive, Suite 2, Everett, PA 15537.




Robert P. Brown Jr.

Robert P. Brown Jr., 73, of 1834 Howell Road, Hagerstown, died Friday, Nov. 17, 2000, at St. Joseph's Medical Center, Towson, Md.

Born Sept. 17, 1927, in Ward, W.Va., he was the son of the late Robert Preston Sr. and Julia Virginia Harkless Brown.

He was employed by the United Association of Plumbers and Pipe Fitters Union 486 from 1954 until his retirement in 1989.

He served in the U.S. Army.

He was a member of Church of the Nazarene, where be served on the church board, was superintendent of the Sunday School and was chairman of the Property and Grounds Committee.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, M. Jean Brown; a son, Dewayne R. Brown of Hagerstown; a brother, Samuel A. Brown of Glasgow, W.Va.; two grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.

Services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Church of the Nazarene, 141 N. Edgewood Drive, Hagerstown. The Rev. Richard A. Wilson will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home, 40 E. Antietam St., Hagerstown.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Church of the Nazarene, 141 North Edgewood Drive, Hagerstown, MD 21740.




Austin Gunnell

MCCONNELLSBURG, Pa. - Austin "Fred" Gunnell, 68, of 112 E. Wood St., died Friday, Nov. 17, 2000, at Washington County Hospital, Hagerstown.

Born July 11, 1932, in Washington, D.C., he was the son of the late Austin Fred and Ethel H. Woodbury Gunnell.

He was a sheet metal worker for Local 100.

He was a member of Freedom Worship Center in Fort Littleton, Pa.

He was a member of McConnellsburg American Legion Post 561.
