Hancock school given $10,000

Hancock Middle-Senior High School got a a surprise two weeks ago when an anonymous donor gave the school $10,000.

"Oh, my gosh. We're elated and grateful that there are people out there that recognize the quality of the staff and educational system," Principal Robert Myers said.

The money will be invested, and the school will receive interest on an annual basis for the next five years. After that, the entire amount will be presented to the school, he said.

"If we use it wisely, it will grow," Myers said.

Myers hasn't thought about what the school will buy with the money, but it will be kept until it is needed.

"We don't want to use that amount of money before it's necessary," he said.

The Washington County Board of Education has agreed to accept the donation.
