You are welcome to leave a recorded message on any subject, but some calls will be screened out.

Here are some of the calls we have received lately:

"In response to the person who is a Democrat and voted for Bush and he wants to take the country back and do away with same sex unions. Same-sex unions is something that goes state by state. I would like to remind him that Cheney's daughter is a lesbian and as a form of their Christian love and acceptance they have accepted her lifestyle partner into their family."

"I am beginning to think that we need a recount in Washington County. All the people that I have heard from in the last few days that has voted for Gore. Not that it would make any difference, but I would not be surprised if several thousand of our votes were thrown in the trash, too. I think that if they did do a recount, they would find all kinds of discrepancies."

"Is there a fine line between who needs to obtain a permit for a storage shed and who doesn't or is it the fact that a lot of them are done on Saturdays and are overlooked by the Planning and Zoning Commission?"

"George Bush said he trusted the people, but he doesn't trust the people that counted the votes in Florida. He had the machine do it. I don't trust him."

"Gov. George Bush of Texas, this year signed a bill to hand count the ballots. Now he is crying, no, no, we can't count the ballots by hand in Florida. I guess that is what you call a real hypocrite."

"I wanted to say that I am happy that I live in a town where they can spend millions of dollars on a stadium that nobody really cares about at all and nobody is going to come to. But yet, nobody can help out the homeless that live here. All you can tell them is that, 'you can't stay at the CSX railroads.' It is really nice to live in a town like this and I can't wait to move out."

"I wish The Herald-Mail would run an in-depth article on why one county commissioner is holding up funds for the stadium unless we purchase the land next to it. Why does he want to increase our indebtedness when our town has indicated a long-range interest in acquiring that property? Why do we have to put out that tax money right now? Also, Munson spent $300,000 that could have went into the building of the stadium. I don't appreciate the way our county and state people are picking on the city."

"I wonder how many people complaining about the lack of bathrooms at the Alsatia Mummers' Parade actually give the Alsatia Club a donation, no matter how small, so they can afford to rent more bathrooms."

"Where does Washington County think they are going to get federal money to extend the airport runway, when they voted for George Bush. You know after January, federal money is going to dry up after they get this humongous tax cut, so there won't be any money for that. Maybe the city can ask the federal government for a stadium, too. I think the people should write to the FAA and tell them just how irresponsibly this county manages money and our water and sewer debt and what a mess they made of the county finances and tell them not to give them the money. We don't want our tax money for that."

"Can anyone tell me who is in charge of the Cumberland Valley soccer? Several families, including my own, are due refunds for a Smithsburg team that never materialized."
