Woman charged with driving violations, state police say

FUNKSTOWN - A Hagerstown woman was charged with driving while intoxicated and negligent driving after a vehicle crashed head-on with a backhoe in a construction zone on Md. 65 at Poffenberger Road Tuesday morning, Maryland State Police said.

Police said Deborah K. Devore, 44, was northbound on Md. 65 in a 1992 Nissan when she entered the work area.

She failed to change lanes as directed by a flagman and hit the backhoe, which was parked in the construction area at 10:43 a.m., police said.

Devore, who was wearing her seatbelt, refused medical treatment, police said.

Juveniles injured when truck strikes utility pole

BOONSBORO - Two juveniles were injured when a pickup truck hit a utility pole on Md. 66 north of Benevola Church Road Wednesday afternoon, Maryland State Police said.


Police said a 17-year-old male from Keedysville was driving a 1988 Ford pickup truck south on Md. 66 when his tire blew out at 3:51 p.m.

He lost control of the truck, which broadsided a utility pole.

The driver and his 16-year-old passenger were taken to Washington County Hospital for treatment of minor injuries, police said. Each had been wearing a seatbelt.

Police charged the driver with unsafe tires.

Md. 66 was closed for more than two hours while workers removed the vehicle and repaired utility lines, police said.

Object tossed at truck windshield in Pennsylvania

SCOTLAND, Pa. - An unknown object was thrown at a truck Monday morning, shattering its windshield, Pennsylvania State Police report.

Ralph Lean Clevenger, of Fort Worth, Texas, told police he was driving west on Pa. 997 around 5:55 a.m. Monday when an occupant in an oncoming car tossed an unknown object at the truck.

The object hit the driver's side windshield, shattering it, police said.

The car continued east on Pa. 997 without stopping, according to police.
