Old Tyme Christmas to be held



FUNKSTOWN - The Town of Funkstown will celebrate its annual Olde Tyme Christmas event from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Dec. 8.

Richard Gaver, event co-chairman told Town Council about the committee's progress and presented a schedule of events during a council meeting Monday.

The event will kick off at 6 p.m. with songs performed by the first-grade classes of Melissa Munch and Amy Roeper at St. Paul's Church, he said.

Afterward, Bobby Harmon will sing, Brownie Troop 294 will perform a skit, Santa will make an appearance, Miss Washington County Julie Lapole will sing and the winners of the ornament, house decorating contest and raffle will be announced.

Children will be able to get their face painted by the Robinwood Encore Players during the evening.

Trolley rides tickets, at $3 for adults and $2 for children under 12, will be sold at Town Hall from Dec. 4. until the night of the event.

Buddy Rizer will act as a tour guide during the trolley rides, which will run every half hour starting at 6:15 p.m. until 8:45 p.m.

The trolley ride will pass by the Funkstown Cemetery where passengers will see the 1,000 luminaires lighting up the graveyard.

Various shops in town will be open for Christmas shopping during the evening.

A hand-stitched portrait of Santa Claus, snow men, poinsettias and baskets of items will be raffled off. Tickets will be $1.
