Here are some of the calls we have received lately:

"Lost, a plastic box of coupons. The box is beige and approximately 6-by-6 inches. My number is 301-432-8274. I would appreciate getting them back."

"Can someone tell me who authorized the inmates to question everyone when they drop off trash at the dump? I for one am a tax- paying, law-abiding citizen, feel that this is harassment. Why are the inmates, who have been convicted of a crime, allowed to question me while dropping off trash?"

"Here we go again about the stadium. The mayor of Hagerstown says one thing and the other guy said that it is going to be another thing. I just wish they would both leave town and forget it or build it themselves. Stop asking people for the money when you know that we don't have it. The children in the schools need it. The people out here need it for food for their children. It is just too much."

"The Mummers' Parade is a great parade. It is long, that is why we sit towards the beginning with our small kids, so we know they can stay awake. Also, we love the Shriners' cars. So don't even think about telling them to get rid of those. The guys driving the little motorcycles and the cars are very hilarious and we watch them every year. The bathroom situation is terrible. A lot of the time they put a sani-pot out, but they only put one. Put two or three. There are a lot of people that come to this parade. It is a great event."

"I am calling about the guy that called about the firetrucks not being necessary in the parade. Well, we put our fire department truck in there and it meant a lot to us. If it weren't for us, who would come and fight your fire, when needed. I think you just like to hear yourself complain. If you don't like it, don't come to the parade, stay home and watch it on TV, if it gets too late for you."

"I want to thank Antietam Cable and the sponsors for bringing us the 76th Alsatia Mummers' Parade. It was very enjoyable and a great job was done by all."

"I see that Washington County has gotten a nice statue of George Washington for our museum. I wonder if the owner knows that this county took away Washington's birthday as a holiday. Give us Washington's birthday back, be real about it."

"In response to the person who wrote in about the length of the Mummers' Parade. I want to say that the parade is fine like it is. If she has that many problems with it, maybe you shouldn't come to the parade anymore. Let it alone, it is fine the way it is. Also, to the person who said that the bands should play the entire length of the parade, get real, you should stay home, too."

"To the person who wanted the gentleman that sells Christmas trees across from Longmeadow Shopping Center. Call Zion Reformed Church at 301-739-7244 and the church secretary will see that the gentleman gets the message."

"Help, need advice, what would you do? If you had been working for three years at the same job, 40 hours a week, starting out at $6.50 an hour. Finally got the $8 an hour in September and they hired a part-time employee, that doesn't know anything about the job and you have to show them everything, because the boss says so. Then you find out that they started out at $7 an hour. As they get more experienced, like in six months or so, they get 50 cents more an hour. That will make them getting $7.50 an hour. I have been there three years and only get $8. What is wrong with this picture?"
