CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Republican Jane Tabb beat Democrat Delores Milstead in the race for The Jefferson County Commission Tuesday by a vote of 7,524 to 5,929, according to unofficial final returns from all 30 voting precincts on Wednesday.
The race for the Middleway District seat largely focused on how to deal with growth in the county. The issue has been at the forefront of discussions ever since a Virginia firm proposed a 3,300 home development with a shopping center and business offices south of Charles Town, W.Va., earlier this year.
Tabb, 47, of Kearneysville, described her view on growth as "responsible growth," one that does not seek to develop every piece of land in the county, but does not shut down growth either.
Tabb said she supported impact fees and forming a cooperative agreement between the commission and the Board of Education to deal with growth issues.
