Trooper honored in DUI effort

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - A Pennsylvania State Police trooper stationed at the Chambersburg barrack was among 20 law enforcement officers honored last week for their efforts to combat drinking and driving.

The Pennsylvania Driving Under the Influence Association presented eight state troopers, including Tpr. Craig R. Finkle, and 12 other law enforcement officers with "DUI Top-Gun Awards" at a ceremony in State College, Pa.

"We are giving recognition to these officers involved for their outstanding DUI enforcement efforts during 1999," said C. Stephen Erni, the association's executive director.

State troopers made 11,459 DUI arrests in 1999. Combined, law enforcement officers made 36,696 DUI arrests last year.

"All police agencies are increasing their efforts to deter drinking and driving, and state police are developing more joint DUI enforcement actions with local police departments," said Pennsylvania State Police Commissioner Paul J. Evanko in a statement.
