I-70 crash kills Florida truck driver

A Florida truck driver hauling furniture died and his passenger was injured Sunday morning after the tractor-trailer in which they were riding went down an embankment on Interstate 70 and ended up on its side blocking Black Rock Road, east of Hagerstown.

Maryland State Police said the truck, driven by Oscar Geraldo Chidichiho, 45, of North Miami Beach, Fla., was westbound on I-70 when for unknown reasons left the roadway and began traveling along the right side of the road.

The truck then hit a tree, heavy brush, jack-knifed across a ditch and went down an embankment, police said. Black Rock Road was closed for several hours, police said.

The accident happened at about 6 a.m.

Chidichiho was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, Peter Sinkle, 35, of Fort Pierce, Fla. was taken to Washington County Hospital. His injuries are not life threatening, police said.
