Cross country gets spotlight Thursday



On Thursday, area cross country will take center stage with five regional meets set to determine which teams and individuals will advance to the Maryland championships.

Clear Spring, Williamsport, Boonsboro, South Hagerstown and Smithsburg will all make the drive up Interstate 68 to Allegany Comminuty College for the Class 1A West meet, beginning at 3 p.m..

Catoctin and host Brunswick will compete in the 1A Central meet beginning at 3:30.

Middletown will host the 2A West regional beginning at 3:15. Walkersville will also compete.

Last Year, Emily Buzzell set the course record and Randy Buzzell and Rocky Morgan completed a 1-2-3 sweep in the girls competition as the Knights won both team titles, but Emily will not compete this year because of an injury.

Both the 3A West and 4A West meets will be held at Rockville Civic Center beginning at 2. North Hagerstown and Thomas Johnson are in 3A, while Frederick competes in 4A.

The Maryland state championships will be held Nov. 11 at Hereford High School.
