Bracelets help kids to be seen

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Trick-or-treaters can add a special glow-in-the-dark bracelet to their costumes tonight, courtesy of the Chamberburg Fire Department.

Chief Allen Baldwin said this is the fourth year the department will pass out the light green bracelets on Halloween.

"The main reason for it is to promote safety during trick-or-treat night," Baldwin said.

He said the bracelets make kids collecting candy after dark more visible to traffic.

Fire Department personnel will have about 1,000 bracelets to pass out between 6 and 8 p.m. in different neighborhoods in the borough.

"We put our vehicles out throughout the neighborhoods and hand them out to the kids. Just look for the fire apparatus," Baldwin said.

He said he has received a lot of positive feedback from parents since the department implemented the program.

In addition to the bracelets, Baldwin said firefighters will distribute literature about fire prevention.
