Parade seen as healthy substitute

Why hold a parade after night has fallen?

The Alsatia Mummers' Parade is held the last Saturday night in October because it's a healthy substitute for Halloween vandalism, parade Chairman William "Bill" McCleaf said.

Washington County towns and the City of Hagerstown have Halloween parades and trick or treating before the day of the parade. This year, most towns have chosen Oct. 26.

The Mummers' Parade will be Saturday at 7 p.m.

McCleaf noted that Mummers' marchers are in costume, as trick-or-treaters would be.
