Shirley D. Bentz

MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Shirley D. Bentz, 62, of 30 E. California St., died Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2000, at Chambersburg Hospital in Chambersburg, Pa.

Born May 7, 1938, in Mercersburg, she was the daughter of Roy C. Robinson of Mercersburg and the late Beulah M. Starliper Robinson.

She worked for Stanley Co. in Chambersburg for 22 years; and for Mercersburg Tannery for 13 years.

She was a member of Clayton Memorial Church of God in Mercersburg.

She was a member of Mercersburg Legion Post 517 Auxiliary.

She is survived by her husband, Charles Bentz; three daughters, Tina Golden of St. Thomas, Pa., Teresa Messner of Greencastle, Pa., and Tonya Pittman of Chambersburg; one son, Tim Messner of Zullinger, Pa.; one stepdaughter, Debbie Draper of Greencastle; one stepson, Mike Bentz of State Line, Pa.; one brother, Cleatus Robinson of Mercersburg; her stepmother, Carol Gladhill Robinson; half-sisters and half-brothers; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and three stepgrandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a stepmother, Hazel Mellot Robinson; a stepbrother, Gerald Mellot; and one great-granddaughter.

Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Clayton Memorial Church of God in Mercersburg. The Rev. Floyd Myers and the Rev. Tanner will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, 6492 Lincoln Way West, in St. Thomas., and Saturday at 1 p.m. at the church. For the convenience of friends the funeral home will be open today from 2 p.m.




M. Lucille Bender

M. Lucille Bender, 95, of 16505 Virginia Ave., Hagerstown, and formerly of Rosewood Drive, died Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2000, at Homewood at Williamsport.

Born May 14, 1905, in Cumberland, Md., she was the daughter of the late William G. and Amelia Nierman Nehring.

Her husband, Carl J. Bender Sr., died in 1981.

She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Halfway.

She is survived by one daughter, Dolores L. Taylor of Sumter, S.C.; two sons, Carl J. Bender Jr. of Fairfax, Va., and Timothy J. Bender of Birdsboro, Pa.; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Doris N. Lambert.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 17268 Virginia Ave., Hagerstown, with the Rev. Christopher P. Moore as celebrant. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home, 40 E. Antietam St., Hagerstown.




Michael D. Maphis Sr.

COLLINSVILLE, Ill. - Michael David Maphis Sr., 33, of 121 Idlebrook Drive, and formerly of Hagerstown, who died Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2000, was the son of Patricia Presley Pendergast of Hagerstown and the late George Maphis.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by a stepsister, Malisa Pendergast of Hagerstown.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made for his children to Patricia Pendergast, 18612 Maugans Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21742.




John S. Murphy

ZEPHYRHILLS, Fla. - John Steven Murphy, 46, of Zephyrhills and formerly of Winsted, Conn., died Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2000, at East Pasco Medical Center.

Born in Hagerstown, he was the son of Bonnie Pauling of Hughesville, Pa.

He owned and operated a janitorial service.

He was a member of First Baptist Church in Zephyrhills.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Deborah Murphy; two sons, John Steven Murphy II and Christopher J. Murphy, both of Zephyrhills; his stepfather, Elwood Pauling of Hughesville; a sister, Theresa Bessette of Daytona Beach, Fla.; and two brothers, Peter Murphy of Okinawa, Japan and Rodney Murphy of Winsted.

A memorial service will be held Monday at First Presbyterian Church in Zephyrhills.

Arrangements are by Oakley Funeral Home, Dade City, Fla.




Wasyl Kolosiuk

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Wasyl Kolosiuk, 77, of Berkeley Springs, died Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2000, at City Hospital in Martinsburg, W.Va.

Born Jan. 14, 1923, in the Ukraine, he was the son of the late Anastasij and Nadia Ludchenko Kolosiuk.

An editor, he assisted with daily radio broadcasts by Voice of America in the Ukraine. He retired in 1988.

He was a member of St. Andrew's Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Silver Spring, Md.

He is survived by a sister, Halyna Swieczkowski of Berkeley Springs; a brother, Konstantyn Kolosiuk of Warren, Mich.; two nieces and three nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Anastasij Kolosiuk Jr.

A funeral liturgy will be conducted Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union St. in Berkeley Springs. The Rev. Stefan Zencuch will officiate. Burial will be in Spohrs Crossroads Cemetery.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.




Hubert C. Smith

Hubert Carr Smith, 88, of 135 Sunflower Drive in Hagerstown, died Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2000, at Washington County Hospital.
