Lake grant sought

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Chambersburg Borough Council Wednesday moved forward with another formality in an effort to revitalize Wolf Lake on the Wilson College campus.

The council approved a resolution to apply for a state grant to study the feasibility of restoring the lake for recreational use after a brief public hearing, during which only one person testified.

Wolf Lake used to be dredged annually when it was the hub of a community park called Dreamland. Since the 1950s, the lake has begun to fill in and it is no longer widely used.

Last month, Chambersburg residents Robert Lesher and Pamela Gaudiose approached the council with the plan and requested a $5,000 contribution toward matching the state grant from the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.

The council has approved the funds and the borough will move forward in filing the application.
