Boonsboro shuts out Williamsport

WILLIAMSPORT - Boonsboro tight end Eddie Moten stands 6-foot-1 and weighs only about 170 pounds.

Warriors coach Clayton Anders said that, because of Moten's size, he is continually surprised his ability and skill-level.

Moten continued to surprise his coach Friday night when he had three touchdowns and rushed for 205 yards to lead Boonsboro over Williamsport 38-0 in the Monocacy Valley Athletic League.

"Ed has brought his 'A' game every week, every week he runs hard," Anders said. "He's skinny really, I mean, he's only about 170 puonds. He runs really hard and he keeps those legs turning and he'll run through some stuff that you wouldn't think he would, breaks the tackles and slides."

With the Warriors up 6-0, Moten scored his first touchdown on a 2-yard run in the second quarter. In the seven-play, 41 yard drive, Moten ran five times for 20 yards.

Moten had a 5-yard score in the beginning of the fourth quarter to put the Warriors up 18-0. His last touchdown came on a 53-yard run with nine minutes left in the game.

"I wouldn't have got (the touchdowns) if I wouldn't have had good blocks," Moten said. "Our guys put out a lot of effort to get me good blocks, so I just ran hard."

Zach Yinger had a 3-yard run to score the first touchdown for Boonsboro. Nathan Himes, who rushed for a total of 72 yards for the night, had a 4-yard run to score for Boonsboro in the fourth quarter.

With 22 seconds left in the game, Brian Schultheis ran 14 yards to give Boonsboro its final score.

"We hit a couple big runs, for a long time there in the second half we just hung on 12-0," Anders said. "We kept them off the board long enough until we couild find somthing that could work, so I guess that's the key, we never let them get on while we were struggling."

Danny Rand rushed for 61 yards to lead the Wildcats. Williamsport quarterback Adam McAllister passed for 43 yards. Williamsport coach Eric Michael said that his team went into the game with two starters out - tight end Josh McCauley came to the game with a cast on his arm and Travis Brown was out due to illness.

"I think (the injuries) take a little edge off of it," Michael said. "I thought we still played well. Our inability to run the ball and pass the ball just caught up to us basically and that was the difference in the ballgame."
