Velma R. Strait

HARRISONVILLE, Pa. - Velma Ruth Strait, 76, of 955 Schoolhouse Road, died Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2000, at her home.

Born July 15, 1924, in Bedford, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Raymond E. and Carrie Alice Morse Hann.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Harrisonville.

She is survived by her husband, Dwight I. Strait, whom she married Sept. 2, 1946; a daughter, Vada V. Strait of Altoona, Pa.; a son, Lynn Strait of Chambersburg, Pa.; a sister, Vera L. Guild of Pittsburgh; three brothers, Walter R. Hann of Chambersburg, Bernard J. Hann of Baxley, Ga., and Grant E. Hann of Shelby, Idaho; two step-granddaughters; and three step-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers.

Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Asbury United Methodist Church in Harrisonville. Pastor Charles Gummo will officiate. Burial will be in Asbury United Methodist Cemetery in Harrisonville.


The family will receive friends Sunday from 6 to 9 p.m. at Sipes Funeral Home in Harrisonville, which will open at 2 p.m. for the convenience of friends. Visitation also will be Monday at 10 a.m. at the church.

Charles L. Golden

FAYETTEVILLE, Pa. - Charles L. Golden, 54, of 1637 Black Gap Road, died Friday, Oct. 20, 2000, from injuries suffered in an automobile accident on Cumberland Highway in Pennsylvania.

Born July 31, 1946, in Shippensburg, Pa., he was the son of Charles T. Golden of Mont Alto, Pa., and the late Mary K. Ott Golden.

He retired in 1993 after 27 years as an inspector at Letterkenny Army Depot in Chambersburg, Pa. He was working part-time as a delivery man for NAPA Auto Parts in Chambersburg.

In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife, Patricia A. Newell Golden, whom he married Oct. 10, 1964; a daughter, Kimberly S. Brookens of Fayetteville; a son, Jeffrey L. Golden of Chambersburg; a sister, Linda M. Mull of Fayetteville; and a grandson.

Services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road in Chambersburg. The Rev. Keith Skelton will officiate. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens in Chambersburg.

There will be no public viewing; however, the family will receive friends Monday at noon at the funeral home.

Ragan O. Stahl

WILLIAMSPORT - Ragan Oscar Stahl, 89, of 16505 Virginia Ave., and formerly of Cherry Tree Lane, Williamsport, died Monday, Oct. 16, 2000, at Homewood Retirement Center in Williamsport.

Born Oct. 25, 1910, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Fred R. and Emma K. Wolfensberger Stahl.

His wife, Janice Mae Myers Stahl, died in 1994.

He was employed as an electrician technician for American Totalisator of Baltimore, and at Charles Town Race Track for more than 25 years, retiring in 1974.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army, 29th Division.

He was a member of Christ's Reformed Church in Hagerstown.

He also was a member of Potomac Post 202 American Legion in Williamsport, Hagerstown Lodge 378 BPO Elks and International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.

He is survived by a daughter, Kathryn Emma Williams of Stephenson, Va.; a son, Vaughn Ragan Stahl of Williamsport; a granddaughter, Nikki R. Walsh of Lancaster, Pa.; two grandsons, Brad Stahl of Williamsport and Jake Williams of Stephenson; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Eva Hoffman and Evelyn Slaydon; and three brothers, Leon Stahl, Eugene Stahl and Rollin Stahl.

A memorial service will be held Monday at 7 p.m. at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport. The Rev. W. Gregory Martin will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park in Williamsport at the convenience of the family.

There will be no viewing; however, the funeral home will be open after 9 a.m. Monday for the convenience of family and friends.

The family requests the omission of flowers. Memorial donations may be made to Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 35 W. Potomac St., Williamsport, MD 21795; or to Williamsport Ambulance Service, 30 W. Salisbury St., Williamsport, MD 21795.

Joseph H. Pearrell

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Joseph H. Pearrell, infant, of Martinsburg, died Thursday, Oct. 19, 2000, at his home.

Born Aug. 31, 2000, in Martinsburg, he was the son of Daniel S. Pearrell Sr. and Carrie Robinson Pearrell of Martinsburg.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by two brothers, Daniel S. Pearrell Jr. and Christopher D. Pearrell, both at home; grandparents Amos and Linda Pearrell and David and Lisa Robinson, all of Martinsburg; great-grandfather Russell Easton of Martinsburg; great-grandmothers Juanita Light of Hedgesville, W.Va., and Isabelle Pearrell of Martinsburg; and aunts and uncles.

Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St. in Martinsburg. Pastor Curt Lowry will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
