BB gun shooting damages Pa. car

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - Pennsylvania State Police are seeking information on a BB gun shooting that damaged a Southampton Township woman's car Wednesday.

Police said someone shot out the rear window of Martha Alexander's car with a BB gun at 7:15 p.m. Wednesday while it was parked at 1695 Bedford Road.

An early 1980s model white Chevrolet Celebrity with loud exhaust was seen leaving the area at the time of the incident, police said.

Hit-and-run accident investigated in Pa.

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Pennsylvania State Police are investigating a hit-and-run accident that happened Wednesday evening as someone pulled on to busy Pa. 30, police said.


Merle Gilbert Jr., of Chambersburg, was driving eastbound on Pa. 30 at 7:25 p.m. when a late 1980s model Ford Ranger or Chevrolet S-10 pulled out from Spring Valley Road directly in front of him, police said.

The front of Gilbert's 1987 Chevrolet Custom Deluxe sustained minor damage when it struck the rear of the second vehicle, police said.

The other car left the scene with damage to the rear bumper and left rear tail light.

Rescue officials search for man

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Rescue officials were searching for a man in the Shannondale Springs Wildlife Management Area Thursday, police said.

The public hunting and fishing area is located on 610 acres along the Shenandoah River east of Charles Town.

It is believed the man may have been hunting when he turned up missing, said West Virginia State Police.

The state Department of Natural Resources was handling the search, but officials with the agency were unavailable for comment.

Deputies probe car break-ins

Thieves were busy Wednesday in the Clear Spring area, breaking into several cars in the 12000 block of National Pike, according to Washington County Sheriff's deputies.

There was no further information on what was taken.

- Also Wednesday, someone cut the fence at Pen Mar Sales, 20354 Leitersburg Pike, and stole a number of pieces of lawn furniture valued at $320.

Damage was $300.

City police investigate burglary

Hagerstown City Police are investigating a burglary at Colours Inc., 583 Northern Ave., which occurred around 11:45 p.m. Wednesday.

Police said $220 was taken.

Evidence, including blood, was obtained at the scene and will be analyzed, police said.

Thefts from vehicles examined in Pa.

Pennsylvania State Police are investigating a number of thefts from motor vehicles.

- A resident of White Church Road in Chambersburg said Wednesday that two pneumatic roofing guns, a pneumatic framing gun and a hand tool battery charger were taken from a vehicle.

- Thieves also got into a vehicle on Green Way Wednesday and took 75-100 CDs in a case.
