Wednesday's Local Roundup - Hubs roll past Eagles


Mike Brooks scored four goals and Dustin Showalter added two goals as No. 4 North Hagerstown outshot Francis Scott Key 27-2 en route to an 8-1 victory in the Monocacy Valley Athletic League.

Ben McAbee had a goal and an assist, while Tim Salvagno scored the other goal for the Hubs (12-1, 6-1). Filip Simic had three assists.

Frank Houser scored for FSK (2-5-2, 2-4-1).

JV: North, 4-0.

Greencastle 7, Susquenita 1

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - John Bitner had two goals for No. 1 Greencastle-Antrim, while Shuaiming Peng had two goals and an assist in a victory over Susquenita.

Stephen Hart and Michael Laufman each had one goal and two assists for the Blue Devils (13-3-1). Matt Fridley had one goal and Dustin Horst added two assists.


Highland View 5, Rosedale 3

Eduardo Bollati had three goals and an assist for Highland View Academy (9-3-2). Steven Byrkit had two goals and an assist, while Fabricio Kos and Bobby Pedigo each had an assist.


Holton-Arms 5, Goretti 2

BETHESDA, Md. - Erin Ryan tied the game at halftime for the No. 3 Gaels on a pass from Marrett Diamond, but Goretti couldn't hang on in the second half against the D.C. metro power.

Meggan McGill had earlier scored for Goretti (13-2-1) from Ryan to start a rally from a 2-0 deficit. Keeper Lauren Costello had 19 saves.


Smithsburg 3, Walkersville 0

WALKERSVILLE, Md. - Sarah Lindsay had five kills and Melanie Whitt added three kills and three blocks as the No. 2 Leopards cruised to a 15-4, 15-5, 15-0 win in the MVAL Monday night.

Ashley Schweinhart added six digs and two points for Smithsburg (11-1, 6-1).

JV: Smithsburg, 15-6, 15-3.

Goretti 3, Clear Spring 0

Heidi Siirtola had 13 kills, Brett Stone had five kills and the Gaels overcame a season-long slump in the serving game for an 18-16, 15-11, 15-8 victory over the Blazers - their first of the season.

Goretti (1-15) made only five errors at the service line.

Tara Myers had five service points, nine assists and five kills for Clear Spring (6-2). Megan Springer had eight service points, two aces and eight kills.

Cham'burg 2, L. Dauphin 0

HUMMELSTOWN, Pa. - Lori Wilkinson had nine kills and Lauren Kegerreis added seven kills and three blocks as the No. 1 Trojans moved to 15-1. Jen Schmutzler added eight service points and two aces for Chambersburg.

Monday, the Trojans beat Shippensburg, 15-3, 12-15, 15-7. Steph VanBrakle had 40 assists, while Wilkinson and Kegerreis added 11 kills each. Sarah Kriner had nine kills and eight points and Brandy Fore added 13 points and three aces.

McConn'burg 2, C. Ridge 0

FISHERTOWN, Pa. - Elaina Paruch had 10 service points as No. 6 McConnellsburg defeated Chestnut Ridge 15-10, 15-2.

Erica Culler had eight service points, Niki Chesnut had five service points, three blocks and seven assists and Kara Carmack had four blocks for the Spartans (13-1).

Greencastle 2, W. Perry 0

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Kathy Kershner had 12 assists as No. 8 Greencastle-Antrim defeated West Perry 15-2, 15-3 in a Mid Penn Capital match.

Emily May had eight digs and Tonia Petersheim added four kills for the Blue Devils (13-1, 13-0).

Carlisle 2, Waynesboro 1

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Becky Toms and Jana Reitz both finished with 10 kills and 35 digs, but the No. 5 Maidens lost a thriller to the Thundering Herd, 5-15, 15-7, 13-15 in the Mid Penn Commonwealth.

Savanah Wetzel had 28 assists and Katie Ferree led with seven points for Waynesboro (10-4, 7-4).

JV: Carlisle, 15-3, 15-9.

J. Buchanan 2, Trinity 0

MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Tara Hoover had 25 digs, eight kills and six service points as No. 10 James Buchanan defeated Trinity, 16-14, 15-3.

Sammy Brown had 29 digs and eight service points for the Rockets (11-5). Abby Stoner had four kills, nine service points, three aces and four blocks, while Emily Stoner had 18 assists.

Everett 2, S. Fulton 0

EVERETT, Pa. - Crystal Strait had four kills for Southern Fulton (9-7) in a 15-3, 15-9 loss to Everett.

Heritage 3, New Life 0

FREDERICK, Md. - Jeanette Kidd had 15 service points and five aces as Heritage won 15-12, 15-7, 15-13 over New Life Christian.

Heidi Stamper had five service points, two aces, three kills and three blocks for Heritage (5-6). Chrissy Ennis had nine service points and Karen Daley added six service points and three kills.


W. Va. championships

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) - Cabell Midland and Wheeling Central earned titles in the rain at the West Virginia high school championships.

Cabell Midland won its first Class AAA title, shooting 26-over-par 310 on the second day of competition at the 6,446-yard, par-71 Guyan Golf and Country Club course, finishing with a two-day total of 634.

Wheeling Central won the Class AA-A crown with a 324 Tuesday for a two-day total of 652, seven shots ahead of defending champion Charleston Catholic.
