Commissioners OK contract

The Washington County Commissioners Tuesday unanimously awarded a contract for a company to study the discharge limits to commercial users of the Conococheague Wastewater Treatment Plant and the Conococheague Industrial Pretreatment Facility.

The $32,310 contract is with Gannett Fleming Inc. of Baltimore.

The state is requiring the county to study the limits, said Karen Luther, county purchasing agent.

The city of Hagerstown previously contracted with the company and some of the information will be shared since many commercial customers are joint customers of the city and county, she said.

The contract was not taken to bid because the county can save money by using the same contractor that the city did, she said.

The study is not expected to have any effects on commercial users, Water and Sewer Director Greg Murray said.

An amendment to Washington County's subdivision ordinance was unanimously approved by the County Commissioners Tuesday.

The amendment, recommended by the Washington County Planning Commission, expands the authority of the planning director to approve minor subdivisions that do not require major infrastructure improvements.

Although he now has the authority to approve subdivisions with two residential lots, the change would allow him to approve subdivisions with five residential lots.
