Saturday's Roundup - 'Roaders get on track with first win


WALKERSVILLE, Md. - Chris Owens scored two touchdowns, while Marcus Smith and Brandon Dykes both added one TD as Brunswick knocked off Walkersville 25-22 in a Monocacy Valley Athletic League game Friday.

Corey Hoffman scored two touchdowns for the Lions, the second of which gave Walkersville the lead. But Dykes' TD sealed the game for the Railroaders (1-5, 1-4).

Todd Calloway had a 57-yard touchdown run for Walkersville (2-4, 2-3).

Carlisle 43, Waynesboro 0

CARLISLE, Pa. - Waynesboro started eight sophomores and was held to 37 yards of offense in a loss to Carlisle.

"We got beat by a pretty solid football team," Waynesboro coach Dave Mahaffey said. "We didn't catch any breaks tonight. There's not a whole lot of bright things to look at when you get beat, 43-0."

Jason McMillan led Grace with two goals, while Josh Barnhart and Hans Lehman each had a goal and an assist. David Steenberg added two assists. Mitchell Hardy had 12 saves. James Gunnell had the only goal for CVCS.


Goretti 9, Musselman 1

Erin Ryan, Marrett Diamond and Bobbie Johnson all scored twice as No. 3 St. Maria Goretti blasted Musselman.

Erin Donaghue, Valerie Cushwa and Janet McCullough also scored for the Gaels (13-1-1, 7-1 Apple Valley League), while Colleen McGarity added four assists. Ryan had two assists and Johnson, Cushwa and Margot Weneck each added an assist.

Elizabeth Campbell scored on a penalty kick for Musselman (4-13-1, 0-9).


Berkeley Springs 3, Goretti 1

Goretti's 24 hitting errors allowed the Indians to rally from a Game 1 loss for a 8-15, 15-9, 15-10, 15-5 win in the AVL. Heidi Siirtola had nine kills and nine points for Goretti (0-16). JV: Berkeley Springs, 2-1.

Southern Fulton 2, Scotland 0

SCOTLAND, Pa. - Southern Fulton won in two games, 15-9, 15-3. Erin Bain led Southern Fulton with 10 service points. JV: Southern Fulton, 2-0.
