Knights defeat Hubs

MIDDLETOWN, Md. - After opening the season with three straight losses, the Middletown Knights have come back with three straight wins.

The Knights' latest win was a big 42-0 victory over the North Hagerstown Hubs on Friday night in a Monocacy Valley Athletic League football game.

Both the Knights and the Hubs are 3-3 overall and 3-2 in the MVAL.

"I'm just real pleased with the effort of the entire team," Middletown coach Tim Ambrose said. "The offensive line played well tonight. All of the backs ran well, D.J. Costello, Scott Harshman, Greg McIntosh and Zach Denton."

Six-foot-three, 240-pound, senior fullback Costello rushed for 190 yards on 17 carries.

"We just did a great job tonight and everybody played hard," Costello said. "We have been getting better as a team, unity-wise, during the last three weeks. That unity has helped to improve our team's success tremendously. It feels great to win. We have got to keep on rolling. I try to get better every game by running hard and making moves. I was able to find the holes."

Costello scored on a 4-yard run and caught a 28-yard TD pass from reserve quarterback Jake Earp to help the Knights build a 28-0 halftime lead.

"D.J. Costello is running better and he is really working hard in practice trying to get better," Ambrose added. "He does an excellent job of penetrating. We gave him some running lanes and some room for him to get started."

North quarterback Tanner Cross missed the game as a result of a one-game suspension after being involved in a fight with Williamsport's Ryan McDonald last week.
