MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - An early morning fire Thursday destroyed a cabin at Coolfont Resort near Berkeley Springs.

"It was accidental in nature; there was no arson involved," said Allen Truax, assistant chief of Company 1 of the Berkeley County Fire Department. Truax said the building was a total loss. He placed the value at about $60,000.

No one was injured in the blaze, which started on the porch of the cabin. A couple was renting the cabin. The fire spread to the nearby woods and brush and the firefighters' first concern was preventing it from spreading.

"It could have endangered the other cabins," Truax said.

About 25 firefighters from several companies responded to the fire, which took about 2 1/2 hours to put out, Truax said.

"It was totally involved by the time we got there, which is why we started working on the woods and brush first," Truax said.

The fire occurred about 6 a.m. Thursday.
