Council OKs purchase option

The Hagerstown City Council voted 5-0 Tuesday to give a 135-day purchase option on the former Tri-State building to a Rockville, Md., developer.

Marc Silverman proposes purchasing and tearing down the city-owned building at 38-40 S. Potomac St. and the buildings on either side to build a $12 million, four-story office building with two levels of underground parking.

He is seeking city Preservation Design District Commission approval for the project.

City Economic Development Coordinator Debbie Everhart said Tuesday that no purchase price for the building has been negotiated with Silverman.
