Pa. man charged with assault following stabbing

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - A Chambersburg man was charged with two counts of aggravated assault after a woman was stabbed Friday night in her home, according to borough police.

Linwood E. Lesher, 60, was also charged with simple assault and making terroristic threats, police said. He was arraigned before District Justice Gary L. Carter and jailed in Franklin County Prison in lieu of $100,000 bond.

Police said the incident was reported at 11:16 p.m. at the home where Lesher was staying with Charity Gettel, 19, of 356 E. King St. The affidavit of probable cause said Gettel is the girlfriend of Lesher's son, who is in the county prison.

According to the affidavit, Lesher and Gettel had argued earlier in the day. She took her two children and left her house, but returned later with her brother, Shaun, 19.

A Chambersburg Hospital spokeswoman said Charity Gettel was treated for her stab wound and released.

The affidavit said police found Lesher at the North Third Street apartment of his daughter at about 11:45 p.m. The affidavit alleged Lesher had a knife when he was confronted at gunpoint by police.
