As a result, Greencastle defeated the James Buchanan Rockets 15-9, 8-15, 15-3 on Monday night.

"Our players didn't let the loss in the second game take them out of the match," Greencastle coach Vicki Ritchey said. "I thought that our girls did a very nice job of staying focused and concentrating on our offensive attack."

Ritchey said there were several factors that led No. 10 Greencastle (10-1) to its victory over James Buchanan (10-3).

"Our service game was very strong and consistent," Ritchey added. "Our team wanted this victory and they worked hard to get it. I think that, defensively, we picked up our game in the third game. We weren't letting a whole lot of balls hit the floor and that tends to frustrate an offensive team."

In the decisive third game, junior middle hitter Mallory Ehrhart served for seven straight points to give Greencastle a commanding 11-1 lead.

Tamyra Toth sealed the match with a service ace.

Sophomore setter Kathy Kershner contributed 38 assists, 11 service points and eight digs; while Ehrhart added 13 digs, nine service points, seven kills and three blocks for Greencastle. Tonia Petersheim collected 10 blocks, seven kills and six digs; while Aimee Eshleman had 11 digs and seven kills for the Blue Devils.

Samantha Brown came up with 47 digs, Emily Stoner contributed 45 assists and Tara Hoover added 10 service points for James Buchanan. Emilee Seville got seven kills and Abby Stoner had five blocks for the Rockets.

"Greencastle played very aggressive at the net and it seemed like that they dug up all of our hits," James Buchanan coach Erica Piper said. "I think that Greencastle is a well-coached team and they have some very talented athletes."

In the JV match, Greencastle rallied, 4-15, 17-15, 15-10.
