RU-486: About the drug
Mifeprex is the trade name of mifepristone, known as RU-486 abroad, where it has been used since 1988 in France.
Other countries that allow its use are Great Britain and Sweden. In the U.S., it will be distributed by New York-based Danco Laboratories.
The FDA has decided doctors must be able to determine how far along a woman is in her pregnancy and to diagnose tubal pregnancies to obtain Mifeprex. They must also be able to perform surgery or provide for it if necessary.
